10.23.09 the art of penmanship

this website provides vital information on how to become a "handsome writer."  for those of us who love nostalgia, this is a really fun treat...

"Having a suitable desk or table, arranged with reference to light, in order to learn to write, it is necessary to be provided with proper materials. Writing materials are so abundant and so cheap in these times that no excuse is afforded for using an inferior or worthless quality. The materials consist of Pens, Ink and Paper."

let's all work on our cursive and start writing real letters!

9.11.09 bacteria landscapes

one of our favorite artists and friends, matthias merkel hess recently created a project entitled bacteria landscape.  a mixture of clay and yogurt mounted in a plexiglass box and cultivated into a progressively changing landscape.  with occasional watering the cultures in the yogurt created a living piece of art.

harriet street gallery inaugural opening

after months of hard work installing dry-wall, spackling, painting, sanding, cleaning, and heavy lifting we finally finished setting up the gallery.  scratched, bruised, weathered and worn we opened the doors to a flood of people.  artwork on the walls from our good friends, and poetry read by some more good friends on 8.29.09 we were finally done.  here are some photos to prove it...
